Galleries
There are three different galleries to explore which can be accessed through the links below.
Artwork titles are often hint at their inspiration, some are unique to one particular artwork but others are used for a series of work reflecting a particular project or ongoing interest such as:
Quarry - The village quarry located a short walk up Worsendale is a place of exploration with sketchbook & camera, and I enjoy following how it changes through the seasons.
Beck - A number of springs on the hillsides above the village combine to create the village beck. Exploring & mapping the obstacle course of human-made structures that this chalk stream encounters on its journey through the village has provided me with much inspiration.
Landscape Legacy - The impact of humans on the wider landscape and nature's response is also a rich source of inspiration for me. I particularly enjoy observing nature reclaiming abandoned human-built structures especially on the coast and in disused industrial sites. Photos & sketches of these places provide a starting point for studio based work.
Evolutionary Landscape - This series is inspired by a year studying geology at university combined with a lifelong interest in the natural structures of the landscape and its continued evolution.
The Art of Nature (TAON) started with exploring the plant life found in the quarry and extended to include the village & my garden too, I gather plant material to use in my printmaking.
Memory Wall - These artworks have a very specific format - a 'wall' built out of pieces of old prints with a sun or moon rising above. I use parts of old prints that I feel are worth celebrating & too good to recycle. Making a memory wall is usually a long process, similar to having a jigsaw on the go where a few pieces are added each day.
I support support the charities TreeSisters & SASH through my sales of my artwork and prices are given for those available to buy. Buying direct from me means that 50% of the purchase price is split equally between these two charities. For exhibition or gallery sales I donate 50% of what I receive after commission has been deducted. More information on these two charities can be found in the Links section of this website.
If you are interested in making a purchase please do contact me - I am happy to send additional images of any artwork you are interested in.
